Beatty at Round Mountain, today; Hornets at Tonoaph, Saturday

Beatty's basketball teams close their Southern Nevada Class A League season this weekend, going to Round Mountain today and Tonopah Saturday.

Beatty's boys are 7-1 to rank second in the league, and are 21-5 in all games, while the Lady Hornets are 3-4, 15-8 as they head to Round Mountain.

The Knight boys have won three straight to move to 3-3 in the league and 5-13 in all games. The Lady Knights are 1-4, 3-13.

Tonopah's boys and girls basketball teams, starting Friday, will play three games in five nights to close out the regular season.

The Muckers travel to Indian Springs today, are at home against Beatty Saturday, and will be in Tonopah Tuesday to take on Round Mountain.

The Southern regionals are Feb. 16-17-19-20 at various sites. Eight of the 11 boys teams will qualify for the playoffs, with eight of 10 girls teams earning spots in first-round games.

Tonopah's boys are 3-4 in the league, 6-10 in all games, after bowing 65-39 to Pahranagat Valley Alamo (4-2, 13-10) last Friday. The Lady Muckers are 2-4, 4-10) after losing 46-15 to league-leading Alamo (6-0, 14-9).

If the playoffs were to begin today, first-round matchups would be:

Girls (Feb. 16)

Upper Bracket

No. 8 Round Mountain at No. 1 Alamo;

No. 5 Beatty at No. 4 Henderson International School (4-2, 11-8);

Lower Bracket

No. 7 Las Vegas Trinity (2-5, 7-12) at No. 2 Lake Mead Christian Academy (7-1, 19-2);

No. 6 Tonopah at No. 3 Lund (6-1, 7-8).

Boys (Feb. 17)

Upper Bracket

No. 8 Tonopah at No. 1 Lake Mead Christian Academy (9-0, 17-3);

No. 5 Spring Mountain (4-4, 8-12) at No. 4 Las Vegas Trinity (5-3, 12-10);

Lower Bracket

No. 7 Henderson International School (3-4, 7-12) at No. 2 Beatty;

No. 6 Round Mountain at No. 3 Alamo.

The semifinals will be played Feb. 19 at Durango High School, with the winners that day earning automatic berths in the Nevada 1-A state tournament semifinals at North Valleys High School in Reno Feb. 26.

The state championship games will be played Feb. 27 at 3:20 p.m. (girls) and 5 p.m. (boys) in the Lawlor Events Center on the University of Nevada campus in Reno.
