Republican Women fashion show

The Pahrump Valley Republican Women will host the annual fashion show beginning at noon, Oct. 24 at the Pahrump Nugget events center. Doors will open at 11:30.

The fundraiser funds the group's charities including, home-bound senior baskets, child haven, the Mammovan, college scholarships and more.

The event is being held during breast cancer awareness month to show further support.

Laureate Omicron meets

The Laureate Omicron chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 28, in the home of Vickie Bradey.

The group will observe Beta Sigma Phi's birthday by having each member remembering when they joined the sorority.

DAV mobile service office

The DAV mobile service office will be available to provide counseling and claim filing assistance from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8, at the VFW, 4651 Homestead Road.

The service is for veterans confused about benefits and services they have earned and to keep up or catch up with any changes.

RPEN picnic

The Retired Public Employees of Nevada will hold a 50s-style picnic beginning at 3 p.m. Oct. 15, at 4030 E. Manse Road.

Representatives from PERS and PEBP will be available to answer questions regarding the organization and benefits.

The public is welcome but everyone is asked to R.S.V.P. by Oct. 12 to 751-4782 or 751-0990.

Genealogical Society meets

The Pahrump Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1, at the LDS Church, corner of Wilson Road and West Street.

Brian Brown of China Ranch will speak on the Corkill side of his family history.

Visitors are welcome, doors open for social time at 6:30 p.m., the meeting will be at 7.

Book signing

Leslie Dening will be signing copies of her book, "Struggling Within," a fictional work of life's experiences when looking for love while coping with abuse, at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at the Pahrump Community Library.

Pahrump Roasters will have a special coffee tasting and the book will be available for purchase.

Dog Agility Club

The UNR 4-H K-9 Kapers Dog Agility Club is looking for youth ages 10 to 18 and their dogs to have fun while teaching the animal to jump and go through tunnels and over bridges.

The Autism support group will sponsor a picnic at 4 p.m. Oct. 4 in Honeysuckle Park.

The picnic is open to all parents of Autistic and special-needs children.

Library notices

* The Pahrump Community Library has new hours.

The hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday and closed Sundays and holidays.

* Movie Day is canceled for September.

* Halloween Costume Drive -- Bring new or gently used costumes to the library through Oct. 16. All sizes are welcome.

* Free computer instruction for beginner users is offered at 1 p.m. Wednesdays. Sign up at the library.

* Shakespeare Made Simple meets at 9:30 a.m. the third Saturday of each month.

The current play is "Merchant of Venice." Sessions are free.

* Shakespeare Readers Theatre meets 4-5:30 p.m. each Tuesday at the library. The current reading is "Much Ado About Nothing."

Shoshone, Calif., will host the annual Old West Days, Oct. 30 through Nov. 1.
