Two Pahrump women died Friday morning in a two-vehicle accident just south of the intersection of Mesquite Avenue and Route 160.

A third individual in the other vehicle, identified at the scene as Vernon Lynn, was transported to University Medical Center Trauma, in Las Vegas, with non-life- threatening injuries.

Initial reports indicate one of the women, Jackie Jean Hogan-Atayde, 46, was driving north along Route 160 in a Honda Civic with Anesie Louise Mcabee, 50.

"For reasons yet to be determined," said the Highway Patrol in a prepared statement, "Hogan-Atayde allowed her vehicle to cross the center line. The Honda entered the southbound travel lane directly into the path of a Pontiac Aztec."

The front of the Honda smashed into the right-front portion of the Pontiac.

The Honda continued into the rough desert area to the east of the highway where it overturned.

Hogan-Atayde and Mcabee sustained fatal injuries in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Lynn was flown to UMC for treatment.

Both travel lanes were shut down and motorists were diverted onto Irene Street for northbound traffic and onto Mesquite Avenue for southbound traffic.
