The service is free. Sheriff's open forum schedule Sheriff Tony DeMeo will hold public open forums at Wulfy's Sports Bar at 1 p.m. on the following dates: Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 22 and Dec. 20. Amargosa solar project meeting The BLM will hold an informational meeting on the Solar Millennium, LLC solar energy project proposed for Amargosa Valley from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 22 at the Beatty Community Center, 100 A Avenue South. The BLM is accepting comments for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement for the Amargosa Farm Road project. There will be an open house format with a brief, formal presentation followed by public comment. AARP Driver Safety AARP will sponsor a two-day driver safety program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 22 and 23. Consult your insurance agent to learn about auto insurance discounts. Dog Agility Club The UNR 4-H K-9 Kapers Dog Agility Club is looking for youth ages 10 to 18 and their dogs to have fun while teaching the animal to jump and go through tunnels and over bridges. Solar water heater information Valley Electric Association will hold informational meetings on the domestic solar hot water heater program from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sept. 22, 23 and 24 in the hospitality suite at Saddle West. Participants can sign up for a site visit to assess installation; meet the manufacturer, the contractors and the VEA staff; view the equipment and ask questions. RCMS after school program Rosemary Clarke Middle School's after school SAFE Club operates from 2 to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The program is staffed by certified teachers and funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. SAFE is open to all RCMS students. Snacks are provided before homework help. NCPPD workshops The Nevada Center for Public Policy Dialogue will hold a series of workshops through Great Basin's Community Service Program. Four are scheduled as follows: Oct. 10, noon to 4 p.m.; Oct. 24, 9 a.m. to noon; Nov. 7 and 21, 9 a.m. to noon. The purpose of the workshops is to help the community use effective techniques discussing isues of public concern. RSVP notices * Retired and Senior Volunteer Program drivers needed. Want to feel really good? Volunteer to help a senior friend or neighbor who no longer drives. RSVP helps seniors stay independent and in their own homes as long as possible by offering rides to local doctors, dentists, library, the banks or shopping. Any driver over 55 is eligible for mileage stipend, up to $60 per quarter for volunteering to drive. Additionally, we enjoy a bi-annual volunteer appreciation awards dinner, our annual mid-winter get-together, training, T-shirts, and the best gift of all -- the sincere thanks of the person you have helped. * Respite Caregiver Program Are you a caregiver for a friend or a loved one? Do you need a break? If so, the RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) may provide the relief you need. We all know that a caregiver rarely gets time for their own basic needs and may feel isolated, lonely or frustrated. The RSVP Respite Caregiver Program provides mature, reliable people who will come to your home for a few hours at a time so you will be free to shop, bank, go to the library, visit a friend, attend church, get your hair cut or just go for a nice, long walk. * Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Many local seniors would love to hear from you. RSVP has a friendly Telephone Tree in Pahrump. It takes only a few minutes, once a week, to brighten the days of a senior who may live alone, who feels lonely or isolated, who may not have family living near. You can make a difference. Haven Selah benefit concert Haven Selah, having suffered damage to the meeting building in a recent fire, is seeking donations of help with the restoration work. Prostate cancer support The Pahrump chapter of US-TOO, an international prostate cancer support group met for the first time Jan. 22. The mission is to communicate timely and reliable information to enable informed choices regarding the detection and treatment of prostate cancer.
