Friday there will be a memorial and services in remembrance of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks at the United Methodist Church, located on the corner of Highway 372 and Pahrump Valley Boulevard.

Called "Remembrance," the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a flag-raising and memorial dedication and progress throughout the day until approximately 7 p.m.

"Taps" will be played in the morning when the flag is lowered to half-mast. A choir will sing and there will be ringing of the bell and chimes.

Beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing each half-hour throughout the day, a brief message will be presented by local clergy. Following each remembrance message, there will be a time for reflection or prayer.

"Our church family is excited about presenting this day of remembrance in honor of the brave souls who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice those memorable days," said Pastor Joanna Vessella of the United Methodist Church.

"We have been blessed to have the cooperation of our local fire department and Chief [Scott] Lewis and expect to have Tower Ladder 1, an engine which actually served at the Twin Towers disaster in New York, here on site for a portion of the day."

She added that everyone in the community is invited to attend any portion of the day's services.

In addition to Vessella, clergy scheduled to speak during the day, beginning at 9 a.m., include Lonnie Biggs, Jim Howath, Mary Jones, Paul Cohen, Lois Shuart, Tony Hughes, Neal Owen, Irene Hunt, Jerry Waggoner, Tom Gilbert, Clelia Garrity, George Ferguson, Ron Fairbairn, Stan Goldsby, Bob Ferguson, Harold Davis and Lonnie McGrew.
