Howlin' Hound Halloween Pahrump Bakery will present a Howlin' Hound Halloween party and costume contest from 1 to 3 p.m., Oct. 31 for all dog-friendly dogs and their people at the bakery, 2640 S. Highway 160. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place in the costume contest. Judging will start at 2 p.m., All proceeds from the sales of the "dog cookies" will be donated to the Nye County Animal Shelter. Kiwanis/Key Club safe night The Kiwanis and the Pahrump Valley High School Key Club will co-sponsor a safe night for youth from 4 to 8 p.m., Oct. 31 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Computer Users Group meets Pahrump Computer Users Group will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 2, in the large meeting room of the library. Mike Erwin will challenge the group with computer trivia/history and prizes will be awarded for correct answers. Don will do a presentation on managing bookmarks and favorites lists. Parking is ample and preferred in the rear of the library. Handicapped parking is still in front. The meeting is free and open to the public. Pahrump home-schoolers There is a Web site for Pahrump home-schoolers for daily support and networking. The group welcomes like-minded individuals and meets online. Rummage sale Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold its regular fall/winter rummage sale starting at 8 a.m., Nov. 6 and 7. There will be lots of clothing, household goods, appliances, glassware, toys, Christmas bargains and collectables. Ash Meadows day trip Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association will conduct a day trip to Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge Nov. 7. The oasis contains springs, streams, and species of plants and animals found nowhere else on earth. The refuge staff will guide participants to see the endangered pupfish, visit two springs, take a short hike and learn why we need to protect endangered species. SNAPS yard sale Spay/Neuter all Pets and Strays (SNAPS) is seeking donations for its yard sale scheduled for Oct. 30. Donations may be dropped off at D is for Dog, 2200 E. Mondays -- Prenatal parenting class, 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays -- Nurturing Parent class, 1-3 p.m., Spanish. Wednesdays -- Nurturing Parent class, 1-3 p.m., English. Saints 'N' Sinners party The Church of the Redeemed will have a Saints 'N' Sinners Party starting at 5 p.m., Oct. 30 at the church, 4300 E. Navajo Blvd. The cost is $3 per person or $20 per family. Church Fall Festival First Southern Baptist Church will host a Fall Festival from 5 to 7 p.m., Oct. 31 for children age 2 through fifth grade at the church, 741 E. Fehrs Way. Town e-letter The Town of Pahrump has an e-newsletter available to residents of Pahrump to provide information on upcoming events, agenda items and general town news. The newsletter includes information on town projects, departments and advisory boards, staff viewpoints and points of interest. Soroptimists awards Soroptimists International Pahrump Valley is offering two awards and are seeking qualified candidates. For the Violet Richardson Award, candidates must be between 14 and 17 years old and must be actively volunteering and giving back to the community. For the Women's Opportunity Award, the candidates must be women as the main financial provider for her family; must be continuing education through undergraduate or vocational/trade school and have a financial need. Coats and food drive Kaye's Allstate is accepting new and gently used coats for both children and adults. They are also accepting canned goods to donate to charities here. VFW veterans' benefit The VFW Post 10054 will have a veterans' benefit starting with a service at 11 a.m., Nov. 11. A free lunch for veterans, the ladies auxiliary and the American Legion will be at 1 p.m. Chuck Ross and the Tennessee Ramblers will present a country and western hoedown featuring Jimmy "D" and the Howlin' Dawgs with guests Dean West and Joe Willit. All proceeds benefit veterans. PAC auditions for children's theater PAC will hold auditions for the first performance of the new children's theater project, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," from 6 to 8 p.m., Nov. 5 in the Bob Ruud Community Center. Veterans Remembrance The Elks will hold a pancake, sausage, bacon and egg breakfast at 10 a.m. Nov. 15. There will also be a bake sale with proceeds from both fundraisers going to the Lodge Veterans Charity. The event will last until the food runs out. The Elks Lodge No. 2796 is located at 2220 E. Basin Ave. White Elephant and bake sale Moose Lodge No. 808 will hold a White Elephant and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 6 and 7 and from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 8, at the lodge, corner of Second and East streets. Help for Boys & Girls Club Volunteers and support are needed for the Boys & Girls Club Steering Committee. The "Campaign for Kids" goal is to raise $80,000 in 2010 to keep the Pahrump club operating.
