For the past several years, the StageStop Lounge and Casino has been one of the places in town hosting a benefit for local veterans and this year, the event is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m., Nov. 7.

Christy Herrera, spokesman for the StageStop said it took over the event when past organizers moved away. "We are passionate about raising money for our veterans and felt compelled to pick up the ball."

There will be hamburgers and hot dogs for sure but Herrera said they could possible barbecue a beef brisket or brats. The StageStop, which is donating the meat, is currently compiling a list of people who will donate side dishes and desserts for the benefit.

Dean West and the Smokin' Gun Band will provide the entertainment.

For a cash donation, attendees can get free drinks during the event.

Raffle tickets for a 50/50 draw and other items will be $1 each or six for $5. On the list of donated raffles are lunch for two from Port O Subs, a 30-day membership to Anytime Fitness, dinner for two at

Tommasino's, free lube and oil change with filter from Big O Tires, buffet tickets from Saddle West, oil change from Enck's Auto Repair, car-wash kits from Checker and more.

Donations for raffles are still being accepted.

The big ticket is the yearly auction of a slot machine.

Last year the benefit raised between $2,000 and $2,500, which was used to assist local veterans.

Herrera said there will be a representative available to assist those needing to file claims and get information about other benefits.

All proceeds will be donated to the Disabled American Veterans No. 15.
