It's the Halloween weekend, be careful of the goblins out trick or treating after dark.

There are two festivals this weekend to offer some unique outings and maybe a little Christmas shopping at the craft fairs.

* Over the hill, Shoshone is hosting Old West Days. The party starts with the arrival of the Death Valley 49ers wagon train. The group left Pahrump on Monday and is making its way to the annual encampment in Death Valley after stopping this weekend in Shoshone.

Over the weekend, there will be history talks, live entertainment at the Crowbar Café, craft vendors, a deep-pit barbecue, book signings at the museum and an art show.

* The Desert Art Show will take place in the Flowers Building and the hours are listed in the entertainment schedule.

* There is a Howl at the Moon Party at the Short Branch Saloon in Crystal tonight from 5-8 p.m.

Kathy Bragg, owner of the Short Branch, has steaks and all the fixin's for a happy-go-lucky bunch who party, shoot pool and eat well. Steak dinners are $20 and if you want to go, call 775-372-1717 to reserve a steak.

* Pahrump Singles Friendship Club will meet for a potluck dinner and business meeting at 5 tomorrow evening at the UNR Extension office, Calvada Boulevard and Dandelion Street.

The group schedules either lunch or dinner at a local restaurant about four times a month. Call 727-8562 if you have questions about the group or want to know what to bring for the potluck.

* Free Halloween Safe Nights for the kids are taking place at First Southern Baptist Church from 5 to 7 p.m.; Bob Ruud Community Center from 4 to 8 p.m. and the Pahrump Nugget from 5 to 9 p.m.

* The Valley Cruisers are partying in Mountain View Casino parking lot for a Trunk-or-Treat and an Antique car show from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow. There will be a raffle and a kids costume contest.

* And finally -- two private citizens have decorated their home or yard for the kids. The spook house is open from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow only. The address is 711 E. Wells Road.

The haunted graveyard will be open from dusk to 8 p.m., at 4570 E. Martin St. on the south side. The admission to both is free and the biggest attraction -- there's candy.

Drive carefully and enjoy the weekend.
