Nye fees may be waived

TONOPAH -- A resolution waiving permit fees for a solar hot water heater program by Valley Electric Association is on the agenda for the Nye County Commission meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting is being held at the Nye County Courthouse in Tonopah but may be viewed by video conference at the Bob Ruud Community Center in Pahrump.

VEA Chief Executive Officer Tom Husted Tuesday said county planning department regulations requiring inspections and the paying of permit fees will make the ambitious program unfeasible. Over 800 people signed up for site visits to have their homes inspected for the program.

Among other agenda items, an increase in fees for septic tank inspections conducted by Charles Abbott and Associates is up for adoption.

The Beatty Open Space Plan will be up for adoption and the Amargosa Valley area plan.

Commissioners will set a date for a public hearing on a resolution adopting the Pahrump Valley Desert Tortoise Habitat Conservation Plan.

Bids will be sought to pave 1,760 feet of Lola Lane from Basin Avenue to Desert View Hospital in Pahrump. Adding a northern entrance at an estimated cost of $72,000, will be considered under another agenda item.

The settlement proposal in a lawsuit filed by George John Weisser against the Pahrump Valley Museum and Historical Society is up for consideration.

Guidelines for appointments to Nye County boards will be considered.

Commissioners typically consider north county items at the Tonopah meeting.

A $69,840 contract with Nevada Geo-Tech for engineering services for the new Tonopah fire and ambulance station will be up for approval.

Commissioners will also consider appointing two real estate appraisers to appraise the old Nye County courthouse.

Memorandums of agreement with Tonopah and Round Mountain clarifying the role Nye County Emergency Services will play in relation to their volunteer fire departments will be up for approval.

Another agenda item calls for hiring an asbestos abatement company for $15,000 to abate 550 square feet of flooring at the Gabbs ambulance and fire hall.

Commissioners will consider seeking bids to construct sidewalk ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act at four intersections in Tonopah, estimated to cost $50,000.

The transfer of water rights from Nye County to Tonopah Public Utilities for the Tonopah airport development and Midway Gold project is up for approval.

A $150,284 agreement with PBS&J for engineering services on the rehabilitation and improvement of the Beatty Airport runway is up for approval.
