Sharks survive road test to winSPECIAL TO THE PVT OVERTON -- Rosemary Clarke Middle School's A-team had its quest for an undefeated season spoiled by a loss to Moapa Valley. Saturday, the Sharks avenged that loss and at the same time, claimed the Southern Nevada Junior High football league championship. Scott Maughn, in the second overtime, scored the tie-breaking touchdown and Scott Perron added the points after to give the Sharks a 22-14 lead. Moapa Valley got to the Sharks' 4-yard line, but had to give up the ball on downs, ending the game. RCMS led 14-0, before the future Pirates rallied to tie it and force overtime. In the extra periods, teams start from the 10 and have four downs to score. Neither team was able to score in the first overtime. The Sharks -- coached by Thom Walker, who was assisted by Bob Bruce and Amy Braach-Hart -- had 204 yards total offense. Quarterback A.J. Segura rushed for 41 yards and threw for 84, including 51 for Spencer Mestas, who had 29 yards rushing. Zack Coleman added 33 yards on pass receptions. Perron had four solo tackles and eight assisted stops for the RCMS defense. Stephen McCormick had three solos and nine assisted tackles. Matt Hughes added five solo tackles. Rosemary Clarke finished 7-1 with its win against Moapa Valley, which went into the title game undefeated. On the championship team were Killian Brady-Reeves, Michael Carlson, Jalen Cohill, Zack Coleman, Kyle Daffer and Gerald Fairbank. Also, Richard Greene, Branden Hastings, Charles Hill, Matt Hughes, Alex Jolgren, Scott Maughn and Stephen McCormick. Also, Trevor McPherson, Travor Meads, Spencer Mestas, Mack Morian, Jesse Norris, Scott Perron and Jagger Roche. Also, A.J. Segura, Dallas Stolowski, Jacob Stephens, Sam Tucsnak, Chad Uyeno, Robert Wackett, Kyle Walker and Chris Wooten. |
