Saturday night's celebration of the designation of the Amargosa River as part of the nation's wild and scenic rivers system is an invitation-only affair, but Sunday, Oct. 25, there will be a hike along the river that is open to one and all.

Hikers should meet at the Tecopa, Calif., Post Office at 9:30 a.m., according to the Amargosa Conservancy interim Executive Director Donna Lamm.

The hike is expected to involve about four miles of moderate walking during the day.

The hike will run south from Tecopa to China Beach along the historica route of the Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad.

Drivers will be shuttled back to the post office.
