Bake and yard sale

Church of the Redeemed will have a bake and yard sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 17 at the church, 4300 E. Navajo Blvd.

There will be lots of odds and ends, kids clothing and homemade baked goods.

Animal rescue fundraiser

West Star Old Dog Rescue will have a fall clearance sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 24 at 780 Manse Road.

Sale items include new appliances, collectibles, dishes and outside items.

The 50 percent discount will apply to the outside items as well. Freebies while they last.

Bowling league needs bowlers

The Wednesday After School league is seeking bowlers starting at 3 p.m., Wednesdays at the Nugget.

The league is open to all middle and high school students. The cost is $6 per week and includes shoes and three games.

Library notices

* The Pahrump Community Library has new hours.

The hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday and closed Sundays and holidays.

* Free computer instruction for beginner users is offered at 1 p.m. Wednesdays. Sign up at the library.

* Shakespeare Made Simple meets at 9:30 a.m. the third Saturday of each month.

The current play is "Merchant of Venice." Sessions are free.

* Shakespeare Readers Theatre meets 4-5:30 p.m. each Tuesday at the library. The current reading is "Much Ado About Nothing."

OES yard sale

The Order of the Eastern Star, No. 32, will hold its fall yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 16 at 1901 Isaac St., between Basin Avenue and Irene Street, off of Leslie Street.

He will be broadcasting the weather live at 4:15, 5:15 and 6:15 p.m. from the school.

NCPPD workshops

The Nevada Center for Public Policy Dialogue will hold a series of workshops through Great Basin's Community Service Program and the League of Women Voters.

The next workshop will be 8 a.m. to noon, Oct. 24 and the instructors will be Bill Verbeck, Donna Lee Laduke and Vicky Parker.

The purpose of the workshops is to help the community use effective techniques discussing issues of public concern.

Classes will be held at Great Basin College, 1541 E. Basin Ave., Room 7.

Sun Country Cloggers classes

The Sun Country Cloggers will hold beginner step-dance lessons at Donna's Studio of dance.

PVMRRC open house

Pahrump Valley Model Railroad Club will have an open house from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Oct. 24, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at Nevada Treasure RV Resort, 301 W. Leslie St., corner of Highway 160 and Leslie.

Admission is free.

There will be displays and an operating HO modular layout.

All major modeling scales will be represented.

Dog Agility Club

The UNR 4-H K-9 Kapers Dog Agility Club is looking for youth ages 10 to 18 and their dogs to have fun while teaching the animal to jump and go through tunnels and over bridges.

Adult helpers are needed as well. No experience is necessary.

The Wall of Heroes at Walmart is temporarily not accepting pictures due to space limitations.

Soroptimists awards

Soroptimists International Pahrump Valley is offering two awards and are seeking qualified candidates.

For the Violet Richardson Award, candidates must be between 14 and 17 years old and must be actively volunteering and giving back to the community.

For the Women's Opportunity Award, the candidates must be women as the main financial provider for her family; must be continuing education through undergraduate or vocational/trade school and have a financial need.

RCMS after school program

Rosemary Clarke Middle School's after school SAFE Club operates from 2 to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

The program is staffed by certified teachers and funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.

SAFE is open to all RCMS students.

Snacks are provided before homework help.

Enrichment activities are scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m.
