Wilda Herndon-Cook celebrated her 101st birthday on October 6, but to hear her tell it, she was turning 25 years old.

Called Grandma by her fellow residents and caretakers at V.N. Senior Care Home, located just off Winery Road, Herndon-Cook's family traveled from Lake Tahoe, Calif., to spend time with their matriarch and share cake, balloons and memories.

Herndon-Cook retired from Mountain Bell Telephone Company and lived in El Paso, Texas, before relocating to Pahrump two years ago. There are nine seniors living in the elegantly furnished senior care home.
