BEATTY -- While Beatty takes a break this week, Tonopah continues its quest for a Southern Nevada Class A Eight-Man Football playoff berth Friday night.

The Hornets lost 52-20 to Laughlin in a non-league game here Friday, falling to 1-5 in all games; they are 0-4 in 1-A games, with their next start Oct. 23 at Round Mountain (1-2, 1-5, going into a home game Friday against Nye County foe Tonopah).

The Muckers moved to 2-1 in the league, 2-4 in all games, with a 49-18 rout of Henderson International School (1-2, 2-4).

Elsewhere in the league, Pahranagat Valley Alamo ran its undefeated streak to 18 games with a 72-18 conquest of Spring Mountain Friday.

Alamo is 4-0 in the league, 6-0 in all games and is now averaging 61 points per start, while giving up just 13.1 ppg. The Panthers are at home against Indian Springs ((1-2, 2-3) Friday, and close the season Oct. 29 at Beatty.

Spring Mountain fell to 3-1 in the league, 4-2 overall, with its next league game Friday at Henderson Internaitonal School.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association-sanctioned playoffs begin Nov. 7, with the South No. 1 seed playing at home against No. 4 and No. 3 visiting No. 2. Both kickoffs are at 1 p.m.

The state semifinals are Nov. 14, with the championship game Nov. 21 at a northern Nevada site.

Alamo is the defending champion, having defeated Tonopah 22-18 in the 2008 title game played at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas. In the 2007 finale, Tonopah ran past Carlin 54-20, a year after the Muckers had lost 56-14 to Alamo in the finals.

The West 1-A League is led by Coleville, Calif., 7-0 and averaging almost 77 points per game, while allowing just 5.7 ppg. Mineral County Hawthorne, 5-2, is second. Both teams have two league starts remaining.

In East 1-A, Eureka is assured of a playoff berth, with the Vandals at 7-0 and averaging 38 ppg.

Three teams -- Carlin, Wells and Owyhee -- are tied for second place, and over the next three weeks, they play pivotal games to determine which will go to the state playoffs.

The East-West first-round pairings are No. 1 West vs. No. 2 East and No. 1 East vs. No. 2 West, with those matchups on Nov. 7.

In the state semifinals, it will be East/West No. 1 vs. South No. 2 and East/West No. 2 vs. South No. 1, with games on the higher seeds' fields Nov. 14.

Carlin plays McDermitt Oct. 23 and Wells Oct. 29; Wells faces Owyhee Oct. 23, then Carlin. Owyhee has Wells Oct. 23 and Eureka Oct. 29.
