Student count offers snapshot

Nye County School District has 18 elementary, middle and high schools spread over 18,000 miles of Southern Nevada in the communities of Amargosa, Beatty, Duckwater, Gabbs, Pahrump, Round Mountain and Tonopah.

For the 2009-2010 school year in Pahrump, 6,167 students attend five elementary schools, Rosemary Clarke Middle School and Pahrump Valley High School.

That is 181 fewer than last year.

Individual school enrollment for elementary schools is:

* 379 students at Floyd, with 210 boys and 169 girls;

* 397 students at Hafen, with 201 boys and 196 girls;

* 489 students at J.G. Johnson, with 243 boys and 246 girls;

* 448 at Manse with 221 boys and 227 girls;

* 457 at Mt. Charleston, with 239 boys and 218 girls.

There are 1,167 students enrolled in Rosemary Clark Middle School, with 615 boys and 552 girls.

At Pahrump Valley High School, there are 1,429 students including the Ninth Grade Academy, with 753 boys and 676 girls.

There are 169 students enrolled in Pathways alternative education program, including 74 males and 95 females.

The ethnic report compiled by the school district shows overall in Nye County, American Indian and Alaska Natives make up 2.37 percent of school population.

Asian and Pacific Islanders make up 2.79 percent of school students. Hispanics make up 22.10 percent of the school population.

African-Americans are listed at 3.78 percent and whites make up 68.96 percent of school population countywide.
