Frankie & Sherry at Maverick tomorrow
By CHARLENE DEAN
Remember the songs "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Sherry" and "Rag Doll"? Well, here's your chance to hear them performed live when Frankie Valli impersonator Mark Maynard brings the Frankie & Sherry show to the Maverick Saloon and Dance Hall tomorrow night. By day, Maynard works for Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation. By night, he morphs into the likeness and sound of the legendary Frankie Valli, and has been doing it since he perfected the falsetto Valli voice. In 1993, long before he ever put together a tribute show, Maynard visited with Frankie Valli at Desert Inn Hotel in Las Vegas. Valli gave Maynard permission to pursue the tribute to himself and the Four Seasons. It wasn't long before Maynard contracted with "Legends in Concert," a signing agency putting on impersonator shows mainly in Atlantic City, N.J., and New York. The Frankie & Sherry show was written and copyrighted by Maynard and he is currently negotiating a start date to perform at the Greek Isle Hotel in Las Vegas. Other cast members are Danny Gore, Jay Camphire, Sammy Gartner and Coren Zai as "Sherry." Maynard wanted to be sure to mention the show's sound and lights, man, Gary Brewer, since it was he who introduced the cast and the show to Jan Jensen, owner of the Maverick. The tickets are $20 at the door and the show will be 80 to 90 minutes, beginning at 7 p.m. Call the Maverick, 751-9988, for more information. |
