The weekend at a glance

It's a whirlwind this weekend and next. The weather is certainly cooperating with outdoor adventures and there are a few worthwhile outings on tap.

* Starting today, the Nugget parking lot is the place to be for music of all genres. The International Music Fest opens at 8 a.m. today, tomorrow and Sunday with vendors and food booths. The music starts at 3 p.m. all weekend and ending times are 9 p.m., 7 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.

Musicians will perform everything from reggae and rock, to metal and country. A total of seven bands will take the stage.

* United Way will hold the annual Oktoberfest fundraiser tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. in Honeysuckle Park.

Brats, sauerkraut and potato salad will be available for $6 per plate. Soda, water and beer will be available for purchases as well as hot dogs and chips for the kids.

There will be live German music to set the mood and the affair will last until dusk. There will be a stein contest and a wet T-shirt contest.

Seating is limited so bring chairs or a blanket just in case.

* The ongoing poetry series, Poetry and Coffee, hosted by John Salacan, will be tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. at Lois Layne's Deli.

Once a month poetry lovers and writers get together to hear poetry from the world's greats and read writings of their own.

* Haven Selah will present a fundraiser harp concert starting at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Haven Selah suffered a fire recently and although some clean up has been done, there is need for restoration and materials.

There will be a vegetarian potluck at 5 p.m. Bring a dish to share before the concert.

Haven Selah is located at 1680 N. Blagg Road.

* A new art show opens at the Tecopa Basin Artist Guild Gallery (TBAG) today.

"Intriguing Complicity" is a group show of 16 works of art resulting from cumulative efforts of the core guild members.

This summer, those members each selected an image to pass on to the next member for cart blanch digital manipulation.

Once the image was transformed, it was passed to the next member. Every three weeks, the images changed artists and underwent another digital transformation.

The results and a written statement from each artist about the process will be on display.

The reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m., tomorrow with food and refreshments at the gallery, 860 Tecopa Hot Springs Road.

* Leslie Dening will be signing copies of her book, "Struggling Within," at 11 a.m. in the Pahrump Community Library.

The book was inspired by the murder of a local woman due to abuse.

Enjoy the weekend.
