BEATTY -- Battling for a good seed in the Southern Nevada Class A regional volleyball playoffs, Beatty's girls earned a huge win Friday.

The homestanding Lady Hornets defeated Nye County and league rival Tonopah 25-22, 26-24, 25-15 to move to 3-2 and into third place. Lake Mead Christian Academy is first, with Pahranagat Valley Alamo second.

Lake Mead and Alamo clash Saturday at Pahranagat Valley (1 p.m.), with undisputed possession of first place at stake.

Tonopah bounced back Saturday to defeat Lund 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-23 and go to 2-2 in the league.

Beatty's remaining matches included SandyValley Oct. 6, as well as Friday, at home against non-league rival Laughlin; Oct. 23, at Round Mountain; Oct. 29, Alamo (home) and Nov. 3, at Adelson Prep.

The playoffs are Nov. 6-7 at Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas. The top eight teams are seeded for first-round matches, with the pairings 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5.

Tonopah will play Eureka Oct. 12, Round Mountain Oct. 16, Trinity Oct. 17, Lake Mead Oct. 23 and Indian Springs Oct. 29 in its remaining matches.
