County will consider $5 million DOE grant to retrofit buildings
By MARK WAITE
The submission of an application for a $5 million Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant through the U.S. Department of Energy for retrofitting buildings, will be under consideration when the Nye County Commission meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The meeting will be held in Tonopah, but the public can participate by videoconference from the Bob Ruud Community Center in Pahrump. Nye County would be required to leverage $25 million for the retrofitting program, which can come from other federal money. Applications are due by Dec. 14, the firm BEC Environmental Inc. would prepare the grant application. During a 10:40 a.m. timed item, representatives of the Nye County District Attorney's Office will give a report on the Beatty town boundary. At 10:45 a.m. commissioners will hear an overview of projects funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant program since 1982. A number of items are posted on the consent agenda, which can be voted on with one motion. They are seen as non-controversial items that don't need discussion. Among them, is: * A request to release all of the financial security for subdivision improvement agreements in Mountain Falls; * A $17,500 monthly contract with Akerman Senterfitt for federal lobbying; * A $10,245 contract with RDM Associates to provide the county with oral histories of the Southern Paiute Indians; * A letter to the Nevada Supreme Court over caseload standards for indigent defense; * The termination of an agreement with RevQ for a software system to manage past due payments to the Pahrump Justice Court; * A joint agreement with the city of Sparks and Douglas County to purchase fuel from Western Energetix; * Terminating a contract with Charles Abbott and Associates as "construction manager as agent" for the county administration building at the Calvada Eye and replacing it with a contract with the firm as construction consultant, for a fee of 5 percent of the project cost. On the regular agenda, commissioners will consider a request for a variance to allow a property owner to designate less than 40 acres for a family cemetery. Appointments are due to various town boards: five to the Railroad Valley Advisory Board; four to the Gabbs Town Advisory Board; three for the Belmont Town Advisory Board; two for the Beatty Town Advisory Board and one apiece to the Amargosa Valley and Manhattan town advisory boards. In addition seven members will be appointed to the Central Nevada Museum Advisory Board. |
