SPIKERS JUST MISS AS A TEAM 14 PV athletes on all-state academic teamsPVT
Pahrump Valley High School's fall athletes were honored at an awards assembly Thursday night, but one of the highlights was the announcement that the Trojans' volleyball team was among the best in Nevada, academically speaking. The Lady Trojans' cumulative grade-point average was 3.75; ranked No. 1 and receiving all-state academic honors was Reno Bishop Manogue, at 3.76. A total of 14 PVHS athletes received all-state academic awards. Volleyball players earning academic laurels were Kayla Foster, Megan Hamrick and Taylor McJunkin. In other sports, academic winners included Danielle Altiero, Emilynne Biggs and Rebekah Binderim, golf; Amy Velasco and David Jacobi, cross country; Amber Dove, Terah Larmouth and Leanne Morrow, girls soccer; Jarret Holley and Elliott Owens, boys soccer and Tyler Coyner, football. The award winners: Girls golf -- Rebekah Binderim, most improved; Danielle Altiero and Shyanne Dixon, coach's awards; Brittani DiNicola, captain's award and Sierra Fitzgibbons, most valuable player. Volleyball -- Taylor McJunkin, most improved; Taylor Ball, coach's award; Alyson Kunzi, defensive player of year; Ashley Lindgren, offensive player of year and Kayla Foster, Trojan Pride award. Cross country -- Lupe Alarcon and Nick Stearsn, tough as nails; Brittani Harris and David Jacobi, lionheart; Liz Moncrief and Alex Perez, most improved; Amy Velasco and David Binderim, coach's award and Katie Canino and Mason John, outstanding runners. Girls soccer -- Stevie McElheny, Trojan Spirit; Amanda Head, most improved; Kaitlin Klem, coach's award; Taylor Raymer, defensive player of the year; Melissa Ewing and Janet Garcia, offensive players of the year and Sara Moser, most valuable player. Boys soccer -- Elliott Owens, most improved; Bryce Moser, coach's award; Jarret Holley, defensive player of the year; Martin Apolinar, offensive player of the year and Shane Lindemann, most valuable player. Football -- Dylan Nicolaw, most improved; Nick Murphy, coach's award; Maverick Manning, defensive player of the year; Tyler Lepley, offensive player of the year and Kyle Taylor, most valuable player. |
