Soroptimists awards

Soroptimists International Pahrump Valley is offering two awards and are seeking qualified candidates.

For the Violet Richardson Award, candidates must be between 14 and 17 years old and must be actively volunteering and giving back to the community.

For the Women's Opportunity Award, the candidates must be women as the main financial provider for her family; must be continuing education through undergraduate or vocational/trade school and have a financial need.

Applications are available at American Family Insurance, 250 S. Highway 160, Suite B-8.

'Back in the Day'

Church of the Harvest will present "Back in the Day" as a holiday extravaganza from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., Dec. 11 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Ticket/donation is $15 and must be purchased in advance by calling Delores, 537-0396, or the Chamber of Commerce.

Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to help nonprofit with two events. The Holiday Extravaganza scheduled for Dec. 11 and the Martin Luther King Breakfast, Jan. 18, 2010.

Bowling league needs bowlers

The Wednesday After School league is seeking bowlers starting at 3 p.m., Wednesdays at the Nugget.

The league is open to all middle and high school students. The cost is $6 per week and includes shoes and three games.

Koats for Kids

Mankins Allstate has begun collecting new and gently used coats for children and teens to distribute through No to Abuse.

In the past, 1,000 coats have been donated to children in need.

Pahrump home-schoolers

There is a Web site for Pahrump home-schoolers for daily support and networking. The group welcomes like-minded individuals and meets online.

Coats and food drive

Kaye's Allstate is accepting new and gently used coats for both children and adults.

They are also accepting canned goods to donate to charities here.

RCMS after school program

Rosemary Clarke Middle School's after school SAFE Club operates from 2 to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

The program is staffed by certified teachers and funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.

SAFE is open to all RCMS students.

Snacks are provided before homework help.

Enrichment activities are scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m.

Gospel concert

The Way Fellowship will host a concert at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 21 at the church, 2301 Winery Road.

Sheriff Tony DeMeo will hold public open forums at Wulfy's Sports Bar at 1 p.m. on the following dates:

Free family counseling

David VanderBeek is offering marriage and family counseling to a limited number of Pahrump residents as a community service. Services are in-home and will be provided to families, couples and individuals.

Family Literacy Night

Rosemary Clarke Middle School will host a Family Literacy Night from 6 to 7 p.m., Nov. 19 at the school.

There will be a book swap, pirate storytelling, a writing trait workshop, Nevada young reader's information, free cider and cookies and attendees will get a free book for coming.

Ham Cram class

An introduction to Ham radio via a Ham Cram class will begin at 8 a.m., Jan. 16, 2010, at 1510 Siri Lane.

The class is for technician's license only.

Aktion Club shoe drive

Aktion Club, sponsored by Kiwanis, is holding a shoe drive for school children.

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church will hold Advent services at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, 9, and 16 with soup, sandwiches, fellowship and music.

Interfaith Council service

Pahrump Interfaith Council will hold a non-denominational Thanksgiving service at 6 p.m., Nov. 24 in Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Highway 372.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to help feed the hungry, although it is not necessary.

Anti-Reid rally

The second Anti-Harry Reid Rally will be at noon, Nov. 18, on the northwest corner of Highway 160 and 372 near Bank of America.

This organization encompasses Pahrump, Crystal and Amargosa so we will be reaching out to those communities.

All Peoples Breakfast

The eighth annual All Peoples Breakfast, sponsored by the Pahrump Nugget and Church of the Harvest is seeking community support to help fund the MLK Scholarship Fund.

Community Workshop

Nevada Center for Public Policy Dialogue will hold a community workshop from 8 a.m. to noon, Nov. 21 at Great Basin College-Basin Campus, Room 7.

The workshop is to help community members develop skills in organizing, moderating, observing and reporting forums providing opportunity for citizens to engage in public deliberation on community issues and decision making.
