Eight classes of cars compete at speedway

Besides the appearance of the monster trucks, there was competition in eight stock car classes Saturday on the quarter-mile dirt Pahrump Valley Speedway.

The winners were:

* Robert Smotherman, IMCA modifieds;

* Jonathan Burch, mini-modifieds;

* Jeffrey Johnson, coupes

* Dan Snowden, street stocks;

* Mike Lysinger, pro stocks;

* Bobby Meek, Dwarf cars;

* Jabez Broadhead, mini stocks and

* Anthony Finley, bombers.

Smotherman beat Bryan Wulfenstein to the checkered flag in a race that had Rick Noribe and Keith Gott finish 3-4, respectively.

Smotherman won the heat race, with Gott second.

Burch was pursued by Eric Slusher, Bubba Ray, Tony Martin and John Dearborn in the mini-mod main.

Burch also won the heat, with Ray second.

Johnson had the lone coupe race car in the competition.

Snowden outraced Cody Meads to win the street stock feature. Dale Daffern, Jim McCoy and Ron Moffatt were in the top five.

Completing the grid were Shane Davis, Pete Wallace and Greg Prince.

Meads and Prince ran 1-2 in the preliminary race.

Lysinger, Snowden, Anthony DeBiase and Dusty Park finished first through fourth, respectively, in the pro stock main.

Snowden won the heat, with Daffern second.

Meek and Mark Dillie were 1-2 in the Dwarf feature. Chance Damron, Cecilia Dillie, Scott Kelley, Blake Olson and Mike Bean completed the field.

Damron won the heat, with Olson second.

The Broadheads -- Jabez and Anthony -- were 1-2 in the mini main. Joe Rogers Jr., Austen Snowden and Terry Hiser were in the top five.

Chad Broadhead, Marvin Hatton, John Burch, Sue Smotherman and Austin Koch completed the first 10.

Chad Broadhead won the heat, with John Burch second.

Finley beat Billy Grasser and Barbara West in the bombers feature.

Finley also won the prelim, with Grasser second.

The next speedway race is Nov. 21, starting at 3 p.m.
