* Relay for Life is getting an early start for 2010. The kick-off celebration is from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday at Honeysuckle Park.

It will be the time for early team registration, games, food, refreshments and an informational program scheduled for 1:15 p.m.

The actual relay is scheduled for May 1 in Petrack Park.

* Pahrump Singles Friendship Club will meet at 2 p.m., today at El Cancun restaurant for a late lunch. If you want to go, call 537-1343.

* You might find a late spot for the NWHA Thanksgiving Trail Ride. The National Wild Horse Association sponsors the breakfast, three-hour trail ride and a full Thanksgiving Day feast beginning at 8 a.m., Sunday morning.

The group will meet on the right side of 160 just south of Mountain Springs in a place called the Cottonwoods. It should be hard to miss as the expedition draws quite a crowd of people with horse trailers.

Breakfast starts at 8 a.m., the trail ride starts at 10 a.m. and turkey dinner will be around 2 p.m.

The cost is $20 for the whole event and $10 for dinner only. To tell the organization you'd like to go, call 702-452-5853.

* It's time for the Pahrump Arts Council quarterly meeting and open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meeting is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.

Take your crayons; there will be a quick-draw contest for the fastest crayon masterpiece.

* A poker run, sponsored by the Unclub Boys and the Model A Club, will kick-off at 9 a.m., tomorrow at Saddle West. The nonprofit organizations hold the fundraiser in order to give back to the community.

The cost is $5 per hand.

* The Amargosa Opera House has a new show, "If These Walls Could Talk," staged each Saturday evening at 7:15 and each Sunday at 2 p.m.

The show was inspired by Marta Becket and is executed by Sandy Scheller. Make reservations, tour buses often fill the theater, 760-852-4441.

* Something new for the opera house is the showing of classic movies starting at 7 p.m., Friday nights. This week, "Gypsy," will be on the big screen.

Refreshments are available at the new café on premise.

* There is an all-day pig roast scheduled today, for the Short Branch Saloon, in Crystal. Call Kathy Bragg, 775-372-1717, for more information.

* The Pahrump Nugget is hosting another wine tasting at 3 p.m. Sunday in the events center. The wines will be a chardonnay, a gewürztraminer, a malbec and a port. All wines will be pared with individual courses prepared by Chef Bill.

Tickets are $30 and reservations are necessary for the sake of the kitchen. Call 751-6500 to make yours.

* Cheers For Volunteers will be at 6 p.m. tonight at the Pahrump Nugget. The event is hosted by the United Way and honors citizens and businesses doing more than a fair share to give back to the community.

* Nye Gold Seekers will head to Johnnie tomorrow starting with a meet at 7 a.m. inside Burger King.

An alternate meeting place is at 10 a.m. at the Country Express on North Highway 160.
