There is going to be a party under the stars in Tecopa starting at 8 p.m. Nov. 14 under the trees at Tecopa Hot Springs Resort.

Amy Noel, a partner in the resort, said the Earth Blues Band from Venice, Calif., has been together more than 10 years. She became acquainted with the musicians through the cousin of a cousin to one of the Lennon Sisters. Jacqueline Lennon will be performing with the band.

Noel laughingly said her acquaintance who introduced her to Earth Blues might be related to the Lennon Sisters but didn't have "the voice." "Jacqueline Lennon, who will perform with the band, has the voice," she said.

Earth Blues is the brainchild of front man and guitarist Craig Whitaker, and is an eclectic blend of blues, rock, R&B, and everything in between. From impressive original compositions to rip-roaring rock tunes, The remaining musicians are Ron Moore on drums, Tim Chapman on bass, Tim Boyd on sax, and Larry Dow on harmonica.

There will also be DJ Marc Avelli spinning the tunes during intermission.

This is a new type of entertainment for the resort but Noel said, "We're growing so fast out here, it's unbelievable."

The resort itself has been under renovation for several years and in an energetic burst, workers have recently finished most of 12 new rooms and refurbished two of the three hot baths.

The newest eatery, Pastel's Bistro, opened a little over a year ago and serves four star cuisines during weekend dinner hours. Noel said the bistro will be open the night of the concert until 10 and then "John will probably make pizzas and sandwiches for those who still want something to eat."

Noel said this is a Bring Your Own Booze (BYOB) event but stressed her concern for those attempting to drink and drive. "It's better to bring a tent with the bottle than try to drive home," she said.

The resort usually hosts stargazing parties on the weekend closest to the new moon, and the 15th is as close to dark as it will get considering the new moon will be Nov. 16.

Under normal circumstances, there is an oversized telescope available for gazing at the heavens, but due to "critters" having ruined the wiring, one will not be available next weekend.

There is hope, however, in the application for grant funding to purchase a 28-inch viewer which is compatible with the video-to-screen equipment already in place to put the images up so all the stargazers can ooo and ahhhh at once.

Noel said the resort is almost booked for available rooms next weekend but there are a few openings left.
