Seven candidates are competing for three vacant positions on the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce board of directors Nov. 18.

Only business members of the chamber may cast ballots by mail or at the chamber election dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. next Wednesday. Winners will be announced at the dinner. The cost of the dinner is $10, it will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres.

The chamber board consists of nine members who serve three-year terms. Board members vacating their positions include President Mike Selbach, Secretary Brian Strain and Treasurer Debbie Jones.

Candidates seeking to replace them, in no particular order, include:

* Damon Shea, general manager of Pahrump Valley Disposal, Joe's Sanitation, Nevada Site Services and Southwest Environmental Services. He is an active member of the community both at the town and county level who belongs to the Rotary Club.

* Willi Baer is a member of Soroptimist's International. Baer said she has extensive experience with nonprofit boards. She taught nonprofit management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and trained nonprofit boards in bylaws, strategic planning, protocol and policy-making.

She authored a book titled "The Care and Feeding of a Non-profit Board."

* Marty Daffer, with Classic Realty, is a lifelong Pahrumpian who remembers when there were only 300 residents. He is a real estate agent with an extensive background in concrete and earthwork. Daffer feels his long residency in Pahrump will be an asset.

* Mayola Luster, with AmeriPlan Discount Health Plan, has lived in Pahrump since 2005. She is a retired elementary school teacher who taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 17 years and the Compton Unified School District for five years.

She received her master's degree in 1976 from the University of Southern California.

* Patti Butler, owner of Sunflower Fashions, has been a Pahrump resident for six years. She wants to promote small businesses, having seen too many fail over the past few years, including Pahrump Discount Liquor, which she owned for five years.

* Brad Milton, of Canyon Concrete and Canyon Plumbing, has raised his family and grown his company in Pahrump since 1999.

* Mike Dreyer, owner of Extreme Finish, has lived in Pahrump for 13 years. His community activities include serving as fundraising chairman for the Relay For Life, chairman of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and past president of the Pahrump Valley Rotary Club.
