FISHING

QUAGGA REMINDER: The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters. Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Anglers are catching tiger trout with worms and a few browns as large as three pounds. Rainbows are hitting PowerBait off the dock and the dam. Fly fishers are using light brown Woolly Bugger patterns. With cold temperatures, fishing doesn't pick up until later in the morning.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Cold temperatures have shut the bass and crappie fisheries down. Anglers have been catching rainbow trout with PowerBait off the bottom. Wildlife viewing has been very good at this reservoir with hundreds of deer being seen on and around the state park.

ILLIPAH RESERVOIR

Anglers have found good fishing at this underutilized reservoir. Rainbows up to 18 inches are being caught with a few nice browns in the creel. Despite the low water, farmers are finished irrigating for the season and biologists expect the reservoir to rise.

LAKE MEAD

Striper fishing was good last week but has tapered off. Windy conditions made fishing very good, especially jigging. Successful anglers are catching fish with top-water lures and jigging with anchovies. Anglers fishing in the Echo Bay area are finding success around Stewarts Point.

LAKE MOHAVE

Trout fishing at Willow Beach was good immediately after the trout plant but tapered off later in the day. Anglers on and around the fishing pier are catching fish with small lures and PowerBait.

Fishing at Cottonwood Cove has been fair to good. Boating anglers are having better success than shore anglers and are catching stripers to six pounds at depths between 30 and 50 feet.

Catfish weighing up to five pounds are being caught in coves north of the marina on prepared baits. American Bass had its first tournament on the lake with 31 largemouth bass and two smallmouth bass weighed in.

LAUGHLIN

Fishing was good over the weekend at Big Bend State Park. Fly anglers did well with streamer patterns for stripers and largemouth bass.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Adams McGill, Cold Springs, and Haymeadow have all been stocked with rainbow trout. Anglers have been catching stockers and carryover trout up to sixteen inches in length using PowerBait, lures, and flies.

URBAN PONDS

Trout have arrived at the Floyd Lamb Park and Sunset Park urban ponds late last week. The ponds at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City and Lorenzi Park were on the schedule for Oct. 27. In the meantime, catfish continue to be caught on chicken liver and a variety of baits.
