Pahrump Valley High School senior athletes Kristi Daffer and Ashley Keller received special recognition in the past week.

Daffer, who starred for the Lady Trojans' volleyball and basketball teams, was among more than 30 female athletes recognized by the Las Vegas Athletic Club, during that organization's Celebration of Young Women Athletes luncheon held last week.

Daffer is planning to go to Southern Utah University at Cedar City, where she will play volleyball.

Keller, who played on three state Class 3-A championship girls golf teams at PVHS, was named recipient of a $5,000 scholarship awarded by the Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Founders Club. That announcement came Tuesday, during a golf awards program at the high school.

Planning on going to UNLV, Keller will enroll in the PGA Golf Management course, a decision made by Will Bertz, after he won the scholarship in 2005.

NOTES -- The Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Association's mandatory clinic will be June 17 and 18 at Mountain Falls ... Players 7 to 18 years old are eligible; beginners will be in clinic sessions starting at 8:30 a.m. each day ... Current PVJGA members report at 10 a.m. each day ... The cost is $20 for clinic registration, as well as $20 for annual membership dues. For information, call 727-6670 ... The PVJGA summer season starts June 22, with other events June 29, July 6, July 20 and July 27-28 (the annual Goins Memorial) ... All junior tournaments will be played at the Lakeview Executive course ... The fall-winter season tournaments are Sept. 12, Oct. 3, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5, as well as Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 6, April 10 and May 1. Tournament entry fees are $5 for single-day events, $10 for two-day action. Unless noted otherwise, all tournaments will start at 3 p.m. in the summer, noon in the fall-winter series.
