Honey McDonald, a former poker dealer at the Pahrump Nugget, won the first World Series of Poker final table Wednesday, on the computer tables at Club MVC in the Mountain View Casino.

McDonald will play in a WSOP event June 7 at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, earning a $1,000 seat.

On the final hand, McDonald, an overwhelming chip leader, was dealt 4 of spades and 7 hearts, while the short-stacked Bev Williams found the 10 diamonds-jack clubs connector. Williams went all-in with the remainder of her 2,600 chips; McDonald called. The flop was a harmless six hearts, queen spades, six clubs; on the turn, the ace of spades appeared, but the turn produced a seven of spades, giving McDonald the win with a pair of sevens.

Also competing at the final table were Darcie Eilert, Debbie Dellett, Melissa Williams, Jackie Polansky, Bonita Murry, Patty Franzen, Judy Dean and Louise Kosciuszek. The tournament, which had each player start with $5,000 in chips, ended at 11 p.m. -- four hours after it began.

The first Club MVC open finale is at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the final 10 going after a $1,500 seat in WSOP Event 24 June 11. The players are Larry Weese, Don McDermott, Andy Franzen, Art Page, Jay Sanders, John Chickene, Mike Bartley, Mike Brown, Ryan Johnson and Jackie Polansky, who thus far is the only woman to qualify for two final tables.
