Summer rant

Just in time for a rant.

I'm sure most people have noticed we are approaching the hot weather. For the people of Pahrump who kind of forgot -- who have their dogs on three-foot tethers in the hot sun with metal water bowls (duh), I hope someday you'll suffer like they do.

A dog down the street was on a tether and guess what? Along came the coyotes. Too bad their kid had to find the parts that were left.

Do you have any common sense and compassion? Why in the hell do you even have a dog, especially if it's on a tether or in a three-by-three pen for protection?

I think not. These dogs can really protect your junk. What are you thinking?

I can only hope someday you'll be faced with that sheriff in Arizona who puts people in his tent city in 120 degree weather. Better yet, we should start our own tent city here in Pahrump. There would be a lot of tents. Oh, I forgot, the ALCU would think that cruel.

KELLY PHELPS

Evil, deceitful people

Dec. 18, 2007, my niece, Casey Crisp died in a diabetic coma.

Casey lived in Pahrump for 10 years. She raised, bred, trained and showed miniature horses. Casey helped many people become part of the miniature horse shows and area clubs.

While trying to help my mother settle Casey's estate and sell her horses, I had the misfortune of meeting a couple who wanted one of the horses for $300, which was a price they had paid for a rescue miniature in terrible condition.

When I told them none of the horses could be bought for that, they left and called animal control on us. They alleged the horses were being starved and were lice infected.

The horses were shedding their winter coats.

It was their way of getting what they wanted. It was their habit of getting the horses they wanted to buy taken by Animal Control and sold for rescue prices. We were cleared of all charges and the officer laughed at the allegations. Their little evil petty plot failed. But they were not through.

This year, last week in fact, they made an appointment with my sister, Casey's mother, to see the horses. They acted as though they were really buyers and asked her to put together a package for sale. After hearing the price and pretending to think about it, they left and called animal control, alleging starvation and lice infestation once again.

I am really tired of people like this getting away with their petty little games. If anyone hears that Magic Meadow Miniatures has starving horses, infested with lice, these people are liars.

Thank you for your time.

Thanks a lot, Harry

As I was strolling through a local market today I noticed a headline in the paper -- commissioners claim that Yucca Mountain is still on the table -- did any of them notice that last summer Harry Reid closed it?

Did any of them notice that the contract for Yucca Mountain had expired?

To the benefit of all Nevada residents, Yucca Mountain is officially closed. Thank you, Harry Reid.
