MARK WAITE / PVT Youngsters cool off in the Pahrump Municipal Swimming Pool which opened for the season last Friday. The pool has open swimming daily from noon to 6 p.m., admission is 50 cents. Youngsters can also take lessons from 10 a.m. to noon weekdays as well as from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday nights. Adult lap swimming is offered from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays. An individual season pass is available for $20, or $35 for a family. NyE Communities Coalition and St. Martin in the Desert Episcopal Church have been sponsoring activities for youth in the community for the past couple of years.

This summer those organizations have teamed up with the town to make use of the swimming pool for family and teen nights and are looking for others to join in sponsoring either a Monday or Friday evening. Enough sponsors are needed to cover the entire summer.

To become a sponsor a commitment is required to provide adult supervision and refreshments and agree to sponsor the event as drug-, tobacco- and alcohol-free. The only cost is for the refreshments.

Sponsors are welcome to hang organization or business banners or signs.

The town is picking up the cost of lifeguards, liability insurance and swimming fees.

Beginning June 1, Monday nights from 6 to 8 p.m., during the summer will be set aside for Family Swim Night. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Friday nights will be set aside for teens age 13 to 18.

St. Martin's in the Desert has already signed up to sponsor Teen Nights for June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21. It will also sponsor Family Night on June 22, July 18 and a community picnic scheduled for Petrack Park on Aug. 17.
