Lindemann ties for 16th in state 4-A golf tourneyPVT
SPARKS -- Shane Lindemann of Pahrump Valley had his best finish ever -- a tie for 16th place -- in the Nevada Class 4-A Boys Golf State Championships, contested at Red Hawk Lakes here Wednesday and Thursday. Lindemann, a PVHS junior, was competing in a state tournament for the third consecutive year. In 2007 and 2008, he played in the 3-A tournament. Only in 2008 was he able to play with his teammates also in action; that band of Trojans finished second to Truckee, Calif., in the team standings. Lindemann shot 81-75--156 to tie Reno Bishop Manogue's Kevin Andrews, Las Vegas Silverado's Josh Fisher and Las Vegas Centennial's Brad Rowland for 16th. Ray Gillip, a Las Vegas High senior, sank a 30-footer for par on the first playoff hole to claim the individual championship. Gillip shot the day's low score, a 2-under-par 70, to finish tied at 142 and force the playoff with Jordan Gilmore, a freshman from Sparks Spanish Springs. Henderson Coronado freshman A.J. McInerney, who began the day with a two-stroke lead, shot 76 to finish third at 145. Coronado's Tad Darland, last year's champion, finished fourth at 147, and Green Valley's Ryan Green was the fifth medalist by a tiebreaker, finishing in a group of three at 149. Palo Verde's Thanapon Iamsaard, who finished eighth with a two-day total of 151, had the individual highlight of the tournament when he made a hole-in-one on the 198-yard 17th hole, with a 4-iron. Gillip was playing in the state tournament for the fourth time in his high school career, and the winning putt was the second long one he drained in the last three holes. He took the lead with a 40-footer for a birdie on the 17th hole. Spanish Springs won the team championship 754-to-762 over Coronado, outscoring the Cougars by four strokes each day.
