Man faces 12 charges
By GINA B. GOOD
Joseph Mulcahey, 33, of Pahrump, was arrested after Nye County Sheriff deputies responded to a West Betty Avenue home just after 10 p.m., on a report of a domestic battery in progress. Mulcahey has 12 charges filed against him: attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery with substantial bodily harm with a deadly weapon, three counts of domestic battery, possession and manufacture of an explosive device and harassment. He is also charged with child abuse and neglect. All three victims are juveniles. When deputies arrived at the scene, Mulcahey had a metal baseball bat and was detained. According to a press release from the sheriff's office, Mulcahey allegedly cut his stepson's forearm with a large metal knife, slapped and punched his daughter and pushed another son to the ground. He then aimed a loaded .22 caliber rifle at everyone in the home and struck one of the children with the metal bat. An explosive device was found within reach of the children. Neighbors in the area were evacuated while Las Vegas Metropolitan bomb squad deactivated the device, which was a metal cylindrical object with a fuse attached and filled with gun powder. At this time, the amount of bail is not known. |
