NARFE meets

Award night

New Hope Christian Academy's Award Night is scheduled for 6 p.m., May 28 and graduation is 6 p.m. May 29.

O-Mok-See

The Rising Star Equestrian Association, an NPO, will hold another O-Mok-See scheduled for May 30 in Pahrump.

The cost will be $10 per entry for RSEA members and $25 for non-members.

Kids games will follow the O-Mok-See.

Sign-up starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. A late fee of $10 will apply for entries submitted after 6 p.m.

The Nye County Pahrump chapter of Democracy for America will meet at 6:30 p.m., June 1 at Rubalcaba Taco Shop, 270 Dahlia St., behind Albertson's.

Collecting for No to Abuse

Soroptimist International of Pahrump Valley is collecting art supplies and diapers of all sizes to benefit No to Abuse.

Donations may be dropped off through June 4 at American Family Insurance next to Albertson's or CC's Beauty Zone on East Basin Avenue.

Kiwanis needs donations

The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley is collecting items for its annual Tag Sale, scheduled for June 6.

Library summer reading

The Pahrump Community Library Summer Reading Club is coming soon.

A kick-off presentation with storyteller Glenda Bonin, "Just imagine: Stories for the fun of it," will be 10 a.m. June 16.

Regular classes will begin the following week: ages 4-5, 9-10 a.m., Wednesday; ages 6-11, 1-2:15 p.m., Tuesdays or 10:30-11:45 a.m., Wednesdays; fifth grade and up, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesdays.

Nevada Outreach Training Organization will begin summer hours on June 1.

All program offices for No to Abuse and the Pahrump Family Resource Center will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Vote for Pahrump

The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce has an opportunity to have Pahrump featured in an upcoming issue of Nevada Magazine which is published by the Nevada Commission on Tourism.

The series will be "Touring Around Nevada," and will feature only rural communities. The article will also be featured in the online version of the magazine called "Turning Book."

Vote to get Pahrump noticed by sending votes to editor@nevadamagazine.com. The town with the most votes wins.

4-H

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Southern Nye County 4-H Culture Club is seeking youth age 9 and up who want to learn to knit or crochet.

Currently, this 4-H project group meets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Enrollment dues are $1 per year for most project clubs.

Donation of yarn of any weight/color would be appreciated.

'Hoodie' drive

NyE Communities Coalition Holiday Task Force is sponsoring a hooded sweatshirt drive now through July 31.

All sizes, either zippered or pull-over, new or gently used, are needed. They will be given in the fall to students in need of warm outer wear.

Donations will be accepted 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Boys and Girls Club of Pahrump, 2210 S. Mt. Charleston Dr.

Public service announcement

The Nye County Sheriff's Office offers a free service to check for sex offenders living in your area. The service has been in existence since 2006.

To check your neighborhood go to www.nyesheriff.net and click on the sex offender link. Follow the instructions.

Pahrump Presbyterians

Fast Track program

The Nye County adult education program is offering GED testing and courses.

The GED test can be used to waive English, math, science and social studies electives depending on test scores.

Nevada High School Proficiency Exams with passing scores are a prerequisite, and the adult education offers those classes as well.

All active or retired business people are encouraged to share their knowledge and experience by being a volunteer SCORE counselor.

Sponsored by the Small Business Administration, SCORE provides free consultations to all who want to start a business. SCORE will provide training for volunteers.
