Charles Bonny Shryock

Charles Bonny Shryock passed away May 6, 2009, at The City of Hope after a prolonged illness.

He was born Oct. 5, 1929, in Grand Junction, Colo., and was a resident of Pahrump.

He graduated South Pasadena High School in 1947 and UCLA in 1952 (FIJI, Crew).

He was a commissioned officer in the Navy and spent three years aboard the USS Osborne.

His business career included Garvey Wholesaole, a family business; LA Federal Bank president for three years and working for Great American Bank and Wells Fargo Bank as well.

After retiring, he became an arbitrator. He was a member of the Nye County Board of Equalization and president of the Pahrump Valley Hospital Board.

He enjoyed trips to Mammoth Lakes and Laguna Beach with his family.

His hobbies included skiing, travel, amateur radio and sailing.

He enjoyed sailing (four transpacs; Bermuda, Trans Atlantic races). He was a 50-year member of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club and Secretary of the Transpac Yacht Club.

He is survived by his wife Dori Wells Shryock; daughter Charmaine (Sean) Bailey; step-daughter Melissa (JP) Leasure; grandchildren Lilly and Mac Bailey, Katie, Amanda and John Leasure; siblings Robert F., Nancy (Joe) Jordan and Liz Williams.

Memorial gifts may be made to Dr. Stephen Forman at City of Hope, Attn: Central Processing, 1500 E. Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010, and/or Dr. Donald Feinstein at USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1441 E. Blake Ave., Room 8302, Los Angeles, CA 90033.

Services were held May 11, and interment was in Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, Calif. (05/05/2009)

Scott Payne

Scott Payne passed away May 13, 2009, at his home in Pahrump.

He was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Fredonia, N.Y., and was a resident of Pahrump for 30 years.

Scott graduated high school in 1934 and went to work in the bakery business. In 1936, he went to work for Bank of America.

Soon after World War II began, Scott joined the Army Air Corps as a pilot instructor and served from 1942 to 1946.

During his time in the military, he met a WAAC, who would become his wife. They were married for 63 years.

Following his service discharge, Scott continued working for Bank of America. He retired after 41 years as the vice president of the Far East division.

He opened the first Bank of American in Taiwan in 1965.

Scott served at president of both the Lions and Rotary clubs during his years in the Far East and after 10 years, he transferred to New York as head of the Asia division.

Scott retired and he and Fern moved to Pahrump in 1978.

Scott became involved in bowling and served on the board of Southern Nevada Bowling Association for many years.

He is a member of the Southern Nevada Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

He also served the community by working many years with the Pahrump Tax Aides.

His wife, Fern; three children, William, Robert and Patricia; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. May 23 at Pahrump Family Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity. (05/13/2009)

Toni Lee King

Toni Lee King, 62, passed away May 19, 2009, at Nathan Adelson Hospice.

She was born Aug. 13, 1946, in Mississippi and was a resident of Las Vegas for 15 years.

She was an advocate for colon cancer and of the Baptist faith. Her education extended through two years of college.

She is survived by sons and daughter-in-laws Reginald and Sharon Brown, Thomas and Lonnie Pearson and Joseph and Krystal Pearson, all of Pahrump; brother Jay Sanders of Pahrump; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Odell Holmes and Earlean Henry and sister, Angel Calhoun.

Services will be at 3 p.m. May 26 at Pahrump Family Mortuary. (05/19/2009)

Norma B. Clevenger

Norma B. Clevenger, 95, passed away May 15, 2009, at home.

She was born June 19, 1913, in Elk City, Okla., and was a resident of Pahrump for 13 years.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by sons Randy Clevenger of North Carolina and Jeff Clevenger of Las Vegas and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son Dale Hardwick and daughter Carol Wade.

Services will be at 11 a.m., May 27 at Palm Mortuary-Eastern, in Las Vegas. (05/15/2009)
