Tee-off for a cause

The Rotary Club of Pahrump Valley will hold the annual benefit golf tourney June 6, at Mountain Falls Golf Course.

The $80 entry fee covers more than golf. There will be a barbecue 6-9 p.m. Friday night followed by a magic show by the Great Golfini. Those two events will be at Terrible's Lakeside RV Resort at the Timber House.

Players get free carts, green fees are waived and free range balls are included.

There is a luncheon, a raffle and an awards ceremony will follow the tournament hosted by the Mountain Falls Grill Room.

Friends and spouses wanting to attend the functions can join the fun on either day for a $15 fee for each of the two events.

An established handicap isn't required to play in the tournament which starts at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

The shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. in a Las Vegas style scramble. The Las Vegas scramble is based on skill, but a roll of the dice can test luck as well.

Practice rounds will be available after 12:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Practice rounds are $30 at the Mountain Falls course.

Several hole-in-one prizes will be up for grabs including a Jeep Wrangler, courtesy of Saitta Trudeau and the Pahrump Valley Rotary. There will also be a drawing on Hole 17 where a drawing will give two players a chance to "try again" for a hole-in-one cash prize of $100,000. Hole 14 pays a $10,000 cash prize, also sponsored by Saitta Trudeau.

On Hole 4, some lucky winner will take home Nike golf equipment and on Hole 8 the prize is a Bose "Wave" music system.

Plaques and cash prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place foursomes.

Other sponsors for the big-ticket prizes are Hole-in-One International Insurance Company and Extreme Finish.

The Pahrump Nugget has specially priced rooms available for any out-of-town guests and Terrible's RV Resort has discounted RV spaces for anyone playing in the tourney and traveling in an RV.

Registration for the tournament must be received on or before June 3. Single players are welcome and will be combined to make a foursome.

Rotary can still use sponsors for Tee signs, Tee sponsorships and advertisers in the printed programs.

This event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the often out-of-the-limelight Rotary. The organization contributes to many of the community charities which include scholarships for graduating seniors, the PVHS Interact Club, the high school rodeo, the Boys and Girls Club, mini-grants which provide school supplies for needy children and fund teaching projects and educational supplies. It is involved in Relay for Life, the Pahrump Health Fair and provides support for the local Salvation Army. The community Christmas dinner held every year at the community center is another of its projects.

Call Syd Hatch, 990-4500, Dave Moore, 702-963-1645 or James Oscarson, 702-372-3002 for more information or to find out how to register before the deadline.
