Maverick will celebrate one-year anniversary
By CHARLENE DEAN
The Maverick Saloon and Dance Hall has been in business for a year and owner Jan Jensen has big plans to celebrate the anniversary May 30. Jensen said although business has not been what she had hoped when she opened the doors about a year ago, she is keeping her business going by offering something different every time a chance to do so presents itself. "We're in a recession," she said. "Staying diversified seems to work. My background is marketing and I use that to keep the entertainment new and fresh." Jensen said she hasn't been able to give 150 percent to the business due to health problems incurred by her husband just before she opened the doors at the Maverick, but her efforts constantly offer something different to do here. The one-year anniversary party is no exception. The celebration will be outside and includes a frozen T-shirt contest. Jensen will wet, wring and freeze T-shirts (still in the twisted knot) and the object will be to get the shirt unfolded and put it on. The guys get to do the same thing with frozen undershorts. Jensen said the wearing of frozen clothing will take place over participant's street clothing. She laughed, "This is a family event. We keep it clean. It'll be fun." Also appearing at the celebration will be the Dancin' Step Follies, the Sun Country Cloggers, the Nevada Silver Tappers, Johnny "V", the Whitehorse Band a a belly-dancer. The Valley Cruisers will be there with those beautiful classic cars as well. Vendors have already signed up to sell food, crafts, jewelry, home decor, gifts and more at the bazaar to be held outside. Jensen said there are about 15 spaces left for vendors and anyone interested should call Nadine, 513-1244. The charge for a table/space is $10. There will be $1 drafts and other drink specials inside. The anniversary celebration will start at 10 a.m. Call 751-9988 for more information. |
