Rebuilding Together Rebuilding Together will continue to work a third Saturday on the project home located at 3451 W. Shelly Lane at 8 a.m. May 16 to paint the trim and stain the porches. Rummage sale The Shadow Mountain Christian Fellowship will hold the annual rummage sale 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 16 at the church, corner of Highway 160 and Mesquite Avenue. Vote for Pahrump The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce has an opportunity to have Pahrump featured in an upcoming issue of Nevada Magazine which is published by the Nevada Commission on Tourism. The series will be "Touring Around Nevada," and will feature only rural communities. The article will also be featured in the online version of the magazine called "Turning Book." Fast Track program The Nye County adult education program is offering GED testing and courses. The GED test can be used to waive English, math, science and social studies electives depending on test scores. Prostate cancer support The Pahrump chapter of US-TOO, an international prostate cancer support group met for the first time Jan. 22. The mission is to communicate timely and reliable information to enable informed choices regarding the detection and treatment of prostate cancer. The support group meets the fourth Thursday of the month except November and December holidays 5-6:30 p.m. in the Pahrump Community Library. Women support groups No To Abuse is offering two support groups for women: A support group for women who have experienced domestic violence meets from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. A support group for women who have experienced domestic violence or armed forces related trauma will meet from 1-3 p.m. on Thursdays. Meetings will be held at No to Abuse, 621 S. Blagg Road. Employment computer class Nye County Health and Human Services, through a block grant, will join JobConnect and GBC from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m., May 28, for a free one-day computer training class for eligible individuals seeking employment who need computer skills to create cover letters and resumes, use Internet browsers and e-mail, perform job searches and set up job search accounts. Seating is limited to 20. Applications must be completed, required documents provided and applicant deemed eligible to take the class. Call 751-7095 to determine necessary documents and apply. Library notices * The Pahrump Community Library is accepting applications for volunteer security persons. Volunteers are asked to give five to 10 hours per week. Applications are available at the main circulation desk. * The Pahrump Community Library has a sufficient number of literacy tutors and is ready for students. Kiwanis scholarship applications The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump is accepting applications for their scholarship program. Kiwanis needs donations The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley is collecting items for its annual Tag Sale, scheduled for June 6. Library summer reading The Pahrump Community Library Summer Reading Club is coming soon. Signup now for "Be Creative at Your Library," June 16-July 22. A kick-off presentation with storyteller Glenda Bonin, "Just imagine: Stories for the fun of it," will be 10 a.m. June 16. Regular classes will begin the following week: ages 4-5, 9-10 a.m., Wednesday; ages 6-11, 1-2:15 p.m., Tuesdays or 10:30-11:45 a.m., Wednesdays; fifth grade and up, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesdays. Classes are free. Call 727-5930, option 2, for more information. 'Hoodie' drive NyE Communities Coalition Holiday Task Force is sponsoring a hooded sweatshirt drive now through July 31. All sizes, either zippered or pull-over, new or gently used, are needed. They will be given in the fall to students in need of warm outer wear. Relay for Life Relay for Life, Pahrump Valley, will hold the annual run/walk Aug. 15 and 16 at Petrack Park. All money raised before, during and after the event will stay here for cancer services. The American Cancer Society has a gift closet at Desert View Hospital where cancer patients can get wigs, supplements and other items. Patients may also apply for gas cards and gift Visa cards to help during treatments. For more information go to www.cancer.org. Public service announcement The Nye County Sheriff's Office offers a free service to check for sex offenders living in your area. The service has been in existence since 2006. Desert Senior Center Lane. Call 775-751-5898 or 775-372-5412 for more information. Memorial Day service There will be a Memorial Day service to honor Cmdr. Thomas L. MacAdam, US. Navy Chaplain Corps, Ret., at 9:30 a.m., May 25 at the G.G. Sweet Veterans Memorial Park at Gamebird Road and Money Street. MacAdams served in the Navy from 1969 to 1989, including tours with the Fleet Marine Force in Vietnam. He was ordained in 1958 and moved to Pahrump in 1997. He served as pastor of Saved by Grace Lutheran Church from Jan. 1, 2001, until he retired. The service is open to the public. Nye Gold Seekers meet The Nye Gold Seekers will meet at 2 p.m. May 16 in the Pahrump Valley Museum, 401 E. Basin Ave. Call 727-8771 for more information. Refreshments will be served. 4-H The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Southern Nye County 4-H Culture Club is seeking youth age 9 and up who want to learn to knit or crochet.
