Regular commission meeting is MondayTOMMASINO'S LICENSE ON THE COUNTY AGENDAPVT
Nye County commissioners will hold their regular monthly meeting in Pahrump beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, instead of Tuesday, a day set by statute to vote on the final budget. Commissioners are facing a drop in revenues for the 2009-2010 fiscal year which begins July 1. A public hearing on the budget is scheduled at 10 a.m. after which they will vote to adopt, amend or reject the budget. In another timed item at 9:30 a.m., the commission will vote on recommendations to the state engineer's office over a request by the U.S. Department of Energy to use water in another county other than where it was appropriated. The DOE filed for a number of water rights for watering the rail bed for the Caliente rail route. Twenty-one items are listed under the consent agenda, matters considered routine, which could all be approved by commissioners under one motion. A resolution adopting the tax rate for the 2009-10 fiscal year is on the consent agenda. It also includes a request to form a coalition in Pahrump to develop a plan to reduce poverty in conjunction with the NyE Communities Coalition and accepting a $90,000 grant for a methamphetamine initiative program. A contract with Ted McAdam to assess the organizational efficiency and effectiveness of the Nye County organization is up for consideration. A $199,000 contract with BEC Environmental Inc. for liaison services on congressionally directed projects funded by the Nye County renewable energy feasibility grant will be up for consideration. OHm Geothermal will present plans on conducting studies around Gabbs to determine the potential for geothermal energy. Commissioners meeting as the Nye County Licensing and Liquor Board, will consider issuing a retail liquor and gaming license for Tommasino's restaurant during a 9 a.m. session. In the planning section of the agenda, beginning at 10:30 a.m., the county commission will consider rezoning a group of parcels in southeast Pahrump that were studied by the comprehensive zoning task force. |
