It's too bad Pahrump Valley's fast-pitch softball season came to a close Thursday.

The Lady Trojans won four of their last five starts, including a 14-4, five-inning rout of visiting Las Vegas Spring Valley in a Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A Division game at Floyd Field.

Pahrump Valley, in its inaugural 4-A campaign, finished 7-9 and in sixth place in the nine-team division. A 3-8 start doomed the Trojans' playoff hopes, but it's a young team with eight of nine starters slated to return in 2010. Pahrump Valley was 11-17 in Rich Lauver's coaching return.

The five-hit pitching of junior righthander Becca Gamble was backed by a 19-hit attack against the Grizzlies. Leadoff hitter Petra Beighley went 4-for-4 with a triple, double and two RBIs, and the Trojans scored at least twice in all five innings.

Leanne Morrow was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Pahrump Valley, which didn't feel any anguish for Spring Valley, which had been eliminated from the playoffs earlier last week.

Lenzi Cram pitched a two-hitter and had a home run, a double and two runs Thursday as Desert Oasis' softball team beat visiting Bishop Gorman 11-1 to clinch the Southwest League's No. 3 seed for the Sunset Region playoffs.

At Western, Elisa Dawson and Marisol Salas combined to pitch a two-hitter, helping the playoff-bound Chargers coast past the Warriors, 16-3. Dawson was 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBIs, and Julianna Thornock went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for Clark.

* Pahrump Valley finished 5-11 in the Southwest Division in baseball, after bowing 9-4 to Spring Valley Thursday.

Garrett Blair went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Spring Valley scored five runs in the final two innings to prevail.

Josh Schuster (three runs) and Josh Stout (two RBIs) both went 2-for-4 for the Grizzlies, who gained the Southwest League's No. 2 seed for the Sunset Region playoffs.

Eddie Martinez, Mike Gonzalez and Sam Morrow each had a hit and an RBI for the Trojans, who were 8-19 in Chris Iverson's first year as coach.

Pahrump Valley scored three runs in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead. Spring Valley tied it in the fourth, then pulled away down the stretch.

Elsewhere:

Sierra Vista 15, Bonanza 5 -- At Sierra Vista, Brooks Klein compiled four RBIs on a home run, two triples and a double, leading the Mountain Lions over the Bengals in five innings. Connor Klein was 3-for-3 with a homer, three runs and two RBIs.

Bishop Gorman 13, Desert Oasis 1 -- At Desert Oasis, Jeff Malm, Tyler Wagner and R.J. Santigate combined to pitch a five-hitter and the defending state 4-A champion Gaels -- now 33-3 -- routed the Diamondbacks in five innings.

Malm and Joey Rickard each had a homer and a double, and Santigate supplied a triple and four RBIs. Wagner added a homer. Brennen Stott was 2-for-3 and Dillon Krasn had a double and an RBI for Desert Oasis.

* Tonopah qualified for the Southern Class A playoffs in both baseball and fast-pitch softball. Both tournaments will be played at Alamo High School in Pahranagat Valley.
