CARSON CITY -- District 36 Assemblyman Ed Goedhart, R-Amargosa Valley, was reprimanded after it was reported by Legislative Police he was viewing "what appeared to be women dancing" on his laptop computer May 2 in the Assembly gallery. About 12:40 p.m. that day, Sgt. Dennis Tucker reported he was in the gallery looking down to the chamber floor and observed videos of topless women on Goedhart's computer screen. In his report, Tucker said he entered the upper gallery to "see how the floor session was progressing." He said he was on the top step and "I looked down at the floor, just kind of checking things out, not centering in on any one person or desk. My eye caught a flickering of videos coming from Assemblyman Goedhart's laptop computer." Tucker said he saw some sort of "videos with women dancing and/or lying in bed. The first two I noticed were women fully dressed ... one was topless another without any clothing from the waist down." Tucker had another officer come to his vantage point to witness his observation before notifying his superiors. Officer Robert Milby was also called to observe, noting, "At the time, there were approximately three citizens in the gallery." One was an adult woman sitting with a teenage male. The Reno Gazette Journal reported May 7 that Goedhart was verbally reprimanded by Majority Leader John Oceguera, D-Las Vegas. Oceguera was quoted as saying, "He acknowledged the inappropriate behavior and said he wouldn't be undertaking it again." Goedhart reportedly told the Reno paper the same day that he was surfing the Internet while researching an upcoming fishing trip in Brazil, looking for guides and escorts. He said he clicked on something written in Portuguese and ended up on a nude beach site with pictures of scantily clad women. "It was not a porn site," Goedhart said. "It was not a video. And it was my own personal computer." The Pahrump Valley Times attempted to reach Goedhart for several days but neither phone messages nor E-mail inquiries were returned. Goedhart is in his second term representing Nye County as well as the counties of Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral and portions of Churchill County. |
