CLASS A SOFTBALL Beatty at Henderson todayPVT
BEATTY -- Naomi Cruz struck out five batters in each game and was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, to lead the homestanding Beatty Hornets to an 18-0, 23-5 sweep of Sandy Valley Tuesday. Beatty is 4-8 in the Nevada Southern Class A fast-pitch softball league, 6-8 in all games. Sandy Valley is 2-8, 2-20. The Hornets will close their regular season today at Henderson International School. The twin bill begins at 1 p.m. against Henderson, which is 21-2 this spring, playing as an independent. * Meanwhile, Tonopah's bid for a higher seed in the regionals took a hit Tuesday. The Lady Muckers fell to 6-4 in the league with 3-0 and 12-1 losses to visiting Indian Springs, which moved to 7-1 in the league and into second place. Lake Mead Christian Academy is 7-3 and is third. Indian Springs pitcher Brandi Bryl struck out 18 in a three-hit shutout in the first game and hit for the cycle in the second to lead the sweep. Bryl struck out eight in the second game and was 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer. Nicole Rodgers was 2-for-3 with a triple for Tonopah in the second game. Tonopah travels to Lake Mead Friday for a twin bill starting at 1 p.m. The regionals are May 14-15-16 at a site to be announced, with the first-round seeds No. 1 (Pahranagat Valley Alamo, 10-0 league, 13-8 in all games) vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3. The starting times are also to be announced. The Northern regionals are May 15-16 at Carlin, where the homestanding Railroaders and Wells Leopards figure to qualify for the state tournament.
