Trojans edge Bonanza

LAS VEGAS -- Eddie Martinez was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored, as visiting Pahrump Valley made it three straight wins with a 12-11 conquest of homestanding Bonanza, Tuesday.

Jarret Holley and Sam Morrow each added two hits for the Trojans, who led 12-6 before allowing five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Dan Cazier came on in relief with two runners on and retired the final batter of the sixth to get out of the jam. Kris Bryant homered for Bonanza

Pahrump Valley, in its first Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A season under rookie coach Chris Iverson, was 5-10 in the division and 8-18 in all games when the Trojans played at home Thursday against Spring Valley.

Elsewhere in the Southwest:

Sierra Vista 8, Durango 2 -- At Durango, Tommy Barnes was 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs as Sierra Vista earned the victory. The victory moved the Mountain Lions into a tie for second place tie with Spring Valley at 11-4 with one game remaining. Durango finished 11-5 in the league.

Desert Oasis 13, Western 3 -- At Desert Oasis, Brian Morrison was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Diamondbacks over the Warriors in six innings.

Spring Valley 18, Clark 1 -- At Clark, Enzo Bello went 5-for-5 with a double and seven RBIs as the Grizzlies routed the Chargers in five innings.

* Using standings through Wednesday as a guide, the likely first-roundpairings in the Sunset baseball regionals are:

* No. 1 Southwest (and defending state champion) Bishop Gorman, 32-3, vs. No. 4 Northwest Legacy, 19-7;

* No. 2 Southwest Sierra Vista, 24-5, vs. No. 3 Northwest Centennial, 22-10;

* No. 3 Southwest Spring Valley, 23-8, vs. No. 2 Northwest Palo Verde, 20-9, and

* No. 4 Southwest Durango, 15-19, vs. No. 1 Northwest Cimarron-Memorial, 26-5.

The Southwest dates are May 12, 13, 14, 15, with games at Centennial and Sierra Vista.
