There are no reported cases of swine flu in any public school in Nye County, according to School Superintendent Rob Roberts.

While heath authorities such as Desert View Hospital Emergency Room Director, Dr, Kevin Slaughter are still encouraging people to cover up sneezes and coughs and wash hands frequently, the hysteria over swine flu (now called N1Hi Influenza) has calmed down.

There have been no confirmed cases at Desert View Hospital.

Sheriff Tony DeMeo reports he is also not aware of any cases in Nye County. Several years ago, DeMeo instructed deputies not to shake hands with the public and the outcome was sick days dramatically decreased.

"I took some heat over not letting deputies shake hands with the public," said DeMeo. "But not only did it cut down on deputies catching colds and the flu, shaking hands puts them at a tactical disadvantage."

The new way to greet someone is bumping elbows. That gives a whole new meaning to the term, "bumping into a friend."
