Calvada roof tiles explainedPVT
Nye County Facilities Manager Bob Jones wanted to set the record straight on the roofing tiles left atop the old Calvada building. When there was talk about reroofing the building, county crews stacked the tiles in hopes of taking them down, Jones said. But when he received a bid from a contractor to remove the tiles from the roof, it came in at $4,500, an amount Jones said he was unlikely to recover selling them at an auction. The tiles were the old, heavier clay variety, he said, which are twice as heavy as the modern, cement type and not as attractive for construction work. Jones said county crews would have to comply with extensive regulations set by the Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) before taking the tiles off the roof themselves. |
