Trojans in sweep of Oasis

Pahrump Valley plays its final Sunset Region Southwest Class 4-A home baseball and fast-pitch softball games Thursday, with Las Vegas Spring Valley's Grizzlies visiting.

Both games start at 3:30 p.m.

Both Trojans teams were at Bonanza Tuesday for division games.

Last Friday, the Trojans swept Desert Oasis, beating the Diamondbacks 3-0 in baseball and 13-5 in softball.

Mike Gonzalez, a senior righthander, allowed only two hits as he struck out nine with one walk in a complete-game shutout. He also drove in a run.

Sam Morrow went 2-for-3 for Pahrump Valley (4-10 division, 8-17 in all games)

In softball, senior outfielder Karen Daun went 2-for-2 with three RBIs to lead the Trojans past the Diamondbacks.

Becca Gamble gave up three first-inning runs, then limited the playoff-contending D'backs to a two-run homer by Nicole Liakos the rest of the game.

PV's girls (6-8 division, 10-16) scored five runs in the first inning and six in the fourth to break open the game.

In a non-division game Monday against former Southern Nevada Class 3-A League rival Faith Lutheran, the Trojans lost 4-1 on the Crusaders' field.

Kellie Kersey tossed a seven-hitter as the Crusaders edged the Trojans., Kersey was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Amber Whatley was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Pahrump Valley's Destini Codera was 2-for-3.

* In a key Southern Nevada Class A Central Division baseball doubleheader Tuesday, Tonopah played at Beatty. The Muckers and Hornets are in contention for berths in the regional playoffs.
