Pahrump Gunfighters The Pahrump Gunfighters will meet at 10 a.m. May 9 in the Bob Ruud Community Center. New faces to get dressed up and show off acting skills are always welcome. Rummage sale The Shadow Mountain Christian Fellowship will hold the annual rummage sale 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 16 at the church, corner of Highway 160 and Mesquite Avenue. Poetry jam The Poetry and Coffee series will continue 10 a.m.-noon, May 9 at Lois Layne's Deli, off Highway 160 on Basin Avenue at the corner of Dahlia Street. DAR meets The Pahrump Springs chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will have a meeting at 10 a.m. May 13 in the Pahrump Community Library. O-Mok-See The Rising Star Equestrian Association, an NPO, will hold another O-Mok-See beginning with sign-up at 9 a.m. May 17 in Amargosa Valley as part of the Amargosa Days celebration. The cost will be $10 per entry for RSEA members and Amargosa Valley residents and $25 for non-members. Kids games will follow the O-Mok-See. Heritage Dr. Master Gardeners open house The Pahrump Master Gardeners will hold an open house 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9 at the demonstration garden, 1651 E. Calvada Blvd. Demonstrations will include container planting, pruning, root crops, spring planting, school gardens, worms, dried flowers, irrigation, mulching and herb gardening. There will be a presentation on the Master Gardener Program, the Giant Pumpkin Contest, the farmer's market as well as other topics and question and answer forums. Call 727-5532 for more information. PAVED seminar PAVED will present The Pahrump Business Entitlement Process Workshop 6-8 p.m. May 7 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Vote for Pahrump The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce has an opportunity to have Pahrump featured in an upcoming issue of Nevada Magazine which is published by the Nevada Commission on Tourism. The series will be "Touring Around Nevada," and will feature only rural communities. The article will also be featured in the online version of the magazine called "Turning Book." Vote to get Pahrump noticed by sending votes to editor@nevadamagazine.com. The town with the most votes wins. Call 727-5800 for more information. Sheriff's open forum schedule Sheriff Tony DeMeo will hold public open forums at Wulfy's Sports Bar at 1 p.m. on the following dates: May 17, June 28, July 19, Aug. 23, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 22 and Dec. 20. Rebuilding Together Rebuilding Together will continue to work on the project home located at 3451 W. Shelly Lane at 8 a.m. May 9 to paint, trim the yard and finish the porches. Volunteers are needed and soda, water and lunch will be provided. Cinderella Girls wash cars The Cinderella Girls will wash cars 9 a.m. until ? May 9 in Wulfy's parking lot on Highway 160. Money will go toward the scholarship program. Vidalia onions The Shriners of Pahrump Valley will have sweet vidalia onions for sale at Walmart, Ace Hardware and Smith's Food and Drug the first week in May. Community meeting The Nevada Test Site Community Advisory Board will hold a meeting in Pahrump at 6 p.m. May 6 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. The guest speaker will be Ruth Weiner, from Sandia National Laboratories, who will give a presentation on the RADTRAN computer modeling program of radioactive transportation routes. Census Count Committee The inaugural meeting of the Census 2010 Complete Count Committee will be at 6:30 p.m. May 11 in Room B of the Bob Ruud Community Center. Memorial Day service There will be a Memorial Day service to honor Cmdr. Thomas L. MacAdam, US. Navy Chaplain Corps, Ret., at 9:30 a.m., May 25 at the G.G. Sweet Veterans Memorial Park at Gamebird Road and Money Street. MacAdams served in the Navy from 1969 to 1989, including tours with the Fleet Marine Force in Vietnam. He was ordained in 1958 and moved to Pahrump in 1997. He served as pastor of Saved by Grace Lutheran Church from Jan. 1, 2001, until he retired. The service is open to the public. |
