BEATTY -- A conflict with another school function forced the Beatty baseball team to shift its critical Southern Nevada Class A Central Division doubleheader with Tonopah to Tuesday.

The first game will start 1 p.m.

Tonopah, which didn't play its first Central game until last Friday, is 3-1 in the division, 5-5 overall, as the Clark Jewett-coached Muckers prepare to take on Brian Hayes' Hornets (4-2, 15-3).

The Muckers defeated Indian Springs 14-4, then lost 14-4 to the Thunderbirds in a doubleheader last Friday. Indian Springs is 3-1 in the Central, 11-4 in all games.

Tuesday, the Muckers swept homestanding Spring Mountain 12-1, 17-4, dropping the Eagles to 0-6, 0-10.

The Southern regionals will be played May 14-16 at Pahranagat Valley Alamo, with the top two teams in the South Division squaring off against Nos. 1 and 2 in the Central.

The top two teams in the regionals advance to the state tournament, to be played May 21-22-23 at a site to be announced.

The Northern 1-A playoffs are May 15-16 at Carlin. The pairings are No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 in that double-elimination tournament.

Tonopah is at home against Round Mountain (2-2, 8-9) on May 8 to end the regular season. Beatty closes the same day at Henderson International School.

In the Northern League, Carlin is 4-0 (13-6, all games) going into the home stretch.

* Tonopah's fast-pitch softball team (4-2, 5-5) won 14-4 and 19-6 against Beatty Friday. The Ken Jose-coached Muckers are fourth in the Southern League, three games behind Alamo (8-0, 9-6) and percentage points behind Indian Springs and Lake Mead Christian Academy.

Beatty (2-6, 4-8) fell out of playoff contention Tuesday, when the Hornets lost a twin bill at Lake Mead.

Tonopah plays at Lake Mead (7-3, 9-11) May 8 to end the league season.

Beatty, coached by Loy Koeller, plays today at Alamo (8-0, 9-6) and May 8 at Henderson International School (17-2 as an independent) to end the regular season.

The Southern softball playoffs are May 14-16 at Alamo, with the top four teams qualifying. Currently, Alamo, Indian Springs, Lake Mead and Tonopah rank first through fourth, respectively.

The Northern 1-A tournament is May 15-16 at Carlin, with the state tournament May 22-23 at Majestic Park in Las Vegas.

Carlin's Lady Railroaders are 6-0 in the Northern League, 10-6 in all games as they move closer to a regular-season title.

* The Beatty and Tonopah track teams are in the Richard Lewis Invitational Saturday at Moapa Valley High School in Overton. The 1-A, 2-A and 3-A regionals are in Overton May 15-16.

* The Tonopah boys golf team is at Jackpot today and will end the season May 7 at North Tahoe.
