FISHING
QUAGGA REMINDER: The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters. Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water. EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR Trout anglers have been catching fish on PowerBait, worms, and flies. One angler reported catching several fish on a Pheasant Tail nymph and green Woolly Buggers. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR Anglers have found good fishing off the dam following recent trout plants. Bass and crappie fishing should pick up as temperatures warm up. LAKE MEAD The winds kept most folks at home over the past week. Anglers who braved the conditions caught stripers in the Vegas Bay arm. Sand Island, Boxcar Cove, Crawdad Cove and Government Wash have been producing fish. Cut baits such as anchovies, sardines, and squid have been the most productive. A few folks have been using live shad. Boulder Beach was slow again for both shore and boat anglers. Stewart's Point continues to produce fish. LAKE MOHAVE Trout fishing has been slow for the past few weeks. Some striper anglers have found success for fish in the six-pound range downriver from Willow Beach. Fishing at Cottonwood Cove has been fair in the mornings and evenings. Bucket mouths and smallies are still taking top-water lures and shallow divers while stripers to six-pounds are biting on anchovies, sardines, and squid. Anglers are catching catfish between two and five pounds on cut baits. LAUGHLIN Fishing was good over the weekend at Big Bend State Park. Fly anglers did well with streamer patterns for stripers and largemouth bass. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA Fishing for trout has been good on all reservoirs with PowerBait, lures, and flies. Bass action is starting to pick up. URBAN PONDS The urban ponds have all been stocked with catfish. Sunfish and bass should become more active as the weather warms while trout fishing is expected to slow down. Urban ponds can be found at Floyd Lamb Park, Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park, Veteran's Memorial Park in Boulder City, and Hafen Park in Mesquite. |
