BOYS ROUT GAELS Lady Trojans go unbeaten in 4-A dualsPVT Pahrump Valley's girls trounced visiting Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Wednesday, to complete a sweep of Sunset Region Southwest division rivals in their inaugural season in Class 4-A. The Andy Schneider-coached PV girls won all but two events to roll up 124-1/2 points against the Gaels (28 1/2) and Beatty (26). Freshman Melissa Ewing won both hurdles races and another ninth-grader, Taylor McJunkin, was first in the 200-meter dash and long jump as PVHS dominated the meet, the Trojans' last at home this spring. Ewing won the 100 hurdles (17.4) and 300 hurdles (52.5), and McJunkin took the 200 (27.4) and long jump (14-10). Beatty didn't win an event, but the Lady Hornets put the pressure on the Gaels by placing second in the 4x800, 4x200 and 4x200 relays. Alex Anderson won three events to lead the Pahrump Valley boys to an easy win. The Trojans totaled 125-1/2 points, while Gorman had 41-1/2 and Beatty 16. Anthony Turner of the Hornets won the 400 in 0:53.8. Anderson won the long jump (19 feet, 5 inches), high jump (6-0) and triple jump (43-51/2). Pahrump's Nick Stearns won the 110 hurdles (15.5 seconds) and pole vault (11-0), and teammate Steve Schmidt took the shot put (44-111/2) and discus (108-6). Pahrump Valley will go to Overton Moapa Valley Saturday to compete in the Richard Lewis Invitational. Wednesday, the Sunset Regionals begin three days of state qualifiers at Del Sol High School. The regionals continue May 8 and conclude May 15. The state meet is May 22-23 at Del Sol. |
