$1,000: Are you the next 'Elvis'?

Entertainers from all over Nevada and California will come together looking to pocket $1,000 in grand prize money from the "Images of the King" Elvis competition hosted by the Maverick Saloon and Dance Hall on May 9. Other prizes will be $300 for second place and $250 for third place. Jan Jensen, owner of the Maverick said she was approached to hold the competition as a stepping stone to the national finals to be held in Memphis, Tenn., August 11 through 15. Activities like the one on tap at the Maverick are being held all over the country. The winners are automatically entered into the finals. "It should be fun," Jensen said. "We've got people coming from all over." Pahrump's "Johnny V," an Elvis impersonator, will host the event which starts at 1 p.m. The process to enter the "Images of the King" includes a $75 entry fee.
